Council Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu

…promises to intensify security and community developments

The newly re-elected Council Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu has assured residents of his area of more programmes that are people’s oriented, despite the fact that he is well known for welfare programmes and projects.

According to the council’s helmsman who is well known for the monthly welfare package for the elderly people at his Local Government Area, more equipment and financial empowerment programmes for needy individuals, groups and communities.

Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, while addressing pressmen at the ongoing Induction/Retreat Ceremony for newly elected 57 Council Chairmen, he said Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has charged all Council Chairmen to Initiate Poverty reduction programmes at their grassroots.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the induction, retreat for the newly-elected chairmen of the 57 LGs/ LCDAs with the theme: “Engendering Peace, Security and Development at the Grassroots,” in Lagos on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu admonished the council bosses, “To think out of the box and create enabling environment for wealth creation among people at the grassroots.’’

At the event, organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, the Governor called for peace between the council chiefs and the electorates, saying that it is only under a peaceful atmosphere that jobs can be created.

Recall that Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu led administration of Somolu Local Government, during his first term, delivered almost 40 roads including interlocked road constructions. He said more community development projects. He assured residents of his area of a better secured area as well as security apparatuses to protect lives and properties.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues in the 57 council area, Chairman, Bariga LCDA, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, promised that they will all perform creditably well and work to make the All Progressives Congress (APC) proud.

Harping on how they intend to achieve success in their tenure, he said: ” It’s all about collaboration and synergy between local government and all agencies of government.”And of course, we will take a lot away from this and we are going to administer it at the grassroots”.

In attendance were royal fathers led by the Oba of Lagos, HRM, Oba Riliwanu Osuolale Akiolu, members of the Governor’s Advisory Council led by Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, APC Party Chieftains and State Executive Members.
