In a show of unity and solidarity, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have rallied civil society organizations and other allies in their quest for fairness and justice. With a joint communique issued on Monday, the labour leaders urged the federal government and National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to reverse the recent hike in electricity tariff by the end of May.

Furthermore, they reiterated their May 31st ultimatum for the government to conclude the new minimum wage negotiations, warning of a national strike if their demands are not met. This collective action demonstrates the strength and determination of the labour movement and its allies in fighting for the rights of workers and the common good.

Together, they are sending a clear message: it’s time for fair wages and affordable electricity for all. The government must listen and act swiftly to address these pressing issues. The clock is ticking, and the labour movement is ready to take a stand for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
