He observed: “Edo State Polytechnic and her management would not participate in anything that would lead to exploitation. Due process and diligence would be followed. Because, if you want to train a people you must from the beginning let the people know the details of the partnership.

“I don’t want a situation whereby when we leave here, the next thing we would hear is that Edo Poly is in the news; that we are extorting or exploiting vulcanizers. That is not the partnership we want to sign.”

The rector expressed the belief that vulcanizers are very critical to the overall wellbeing of the society, especially when it comes to safety of lives and property on the road.

While stressing the need for the training and retraining of vulcanizers, Professor Falodun maintained that when vulcanizers don’t do their work properly, it would lead to low productivity; thereby resulting in accident.

The rector expressed the readiness of the polytechnic to partner with other artisans such as plumber, mechanic and builders, noting that the partnership with the vulcanizers would serve as a test case.

“We are starting on a solid ground, good ground, please let’s maintain it. Integrity should be the watchword. We have competent people in the polytechnic that can drive the program to success and we believe that you have same kind people on your own side.

“We would support you greatly in ensuring that things are done properly.

“On behalf of the management, staff and students of this school, we are delighted to be part of this MOU today,” he added.

He expressed the belief that the fabricated machines would the stress and make them fit to work for a longer period of time.

“This partnership, by the grace of God from our vision we would make sure that your polytechnic becomes the father of technical hub in this country.

“Like in the area of modern fabricated equipment, you would recall that this profession we are into, there is no retirement benefits, there is no pension, there is no gratuity. And it affects the body. But when modern equipment are there, it would ease the stress of the profession,” he said.

The head, Department of Engineering of the Polytechnic, Engineer Osite Michael, whose department is to handle the training, was on ground to see to the process leading to the signing of the MOU.
