…..Pledges to work with ECG Board in improving the sector
The Ghanaian Minister of Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that about 10% of electricity produced by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is unaccounted for.
Prempeh stated that for every 1,000MW of electricity generated, 100MW remains unaccounted for.

He made this known while addressing the newly appointed Board of the ECG.

Members of the Board include Mr Keli Gadzekpo (Chairman), Mr Kwame Agyeman-Badu (Managing Director), Mrs Carlien Dorcas Bou-Chedid, Mr Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Mr Sam Dubik Mahama, Madam Maataa Opare and Dr Nicholas Kwabena Smart-Yeboah as members.

Speaking to the Board, Prempeh said, ”The ECG is always in debt”, urging the newly constituted Board to work hard to improve the management of the ECG.

He charged the new board to find a solution to the problems confronting the company.

He also expressed concerns about the revenue losses in the ECG.

”This is because the chunk of the losses were in the area of commercials and which is what the ECG is actually known for — selling energy. And if you are so bad at selling, then the onus is on the board to ensure that things change,” he said.

Prempeh also pledged to work with the current board to achieve a stable and viable electricity sector.
