Buyers who thronged shoprite outlets in Nigeria to shop for the weekend have been left stranded by the outlet’s rejection of the expiring naira Notes.
Customers were seen at the Alausa branch of the concern lamenting their disappointment while pleading with the management to have a rethink since the rejected naira Notes would be legal tender till Tuesday next week.
A deeply hurt customer while speaking with Journalists in the Ikeja Shoprite’s outlet said : we are highly disappointed with shoprite decision not to accept a Nigerian legal tender even on Nigeria soil.
Other customers who also expressed their disappointment at the development urged the necessary body in charge step into the matter and find a way to ease the tension the decision is causing the customers.
The people of Lagos woke up today to see that one of the leading food retailer, acquired by Ketron investment Limited, a Nigerian company owned by a group of institutional investors led by Persians Investment Limited,instruct all their tellers in all outlets to reject the expiring 200, 500 and 1000 denominations which are still legal tender till the last day of this month of January 2023.
