Undersea Cable Damage Disrupts Data And Voice Services Along Africa’s West Coast | The Legend News 

A series of undersea cable cuts have caused equipment faults on major undersea cables along the West African, leading to disruptions in data and fixed telecom services in several countries in the, including Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and others.

The cuts occurred in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, with resulting disruptions extending to Portugal. Companies such as West African Cable System (WACS) and African Coast to Europe (ACE) on the West Coast route from Europe have reported, while SAT3 and MainOne are experiencing downtime.

Additionally, undersea cables connectivity from Europe to the East Coast of Africa, such as Seacom, India Gateway (EIG), and Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE1), have also been affected, cuts reported around the Red Sea, leading to service degradation along these routes.

In Nigeria and other West African countries, Internet and speed have been impacted due to in the networks of service providers in the affected regions.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued a statement on Thursday, indicating that repairs on the damaged cables have commenced, with services gradually being restored. The cable operators have committed to working tirelessly to ensure that services are fully restored the affected countries as quickly as possible.

The NCC emphasized the importance of informing both corporate and individual consumers about the ongoing efforts to restore services in the affected areas.
