MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) welcomed 20 new students for its Class of 2023 in its 12 Month fully funded education programme that develops emerging TV and film talent in Africa.

The academy received numerous applications, and after a rigorous adjudication process by Academy Directors and industry representatives, 20 aspiring filmmakers were selected to be part of the MTF’s 12-month training programme that includes both theory and hands-on experience in filmmaking, from scriptwriting to cinematography, editing and audio post-production. The final candidates that were selected include 40% males and 60% females.
The top graduate will be presented with the opportunity to further develop their skills with various internships sponsored by MTF partner organisations such as the New York Film Academy (NYFA) and Zee World amongst others. Where additional hands-on experience will take place to further prepare them for various sectors in the TV and film industry.
Addressing the new students, the Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, stated that the one-year training will help them gain experience and come out as well-rounded professionals ready for the challenge of the industry. The Academy Director, Atinuke Babatunde added that to ensure the best standard of training, the Academy’s curriculum is tailored in partnership with the prestigious Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos, which will confer the course qualification upon completion of the academy programme. In addition, The Henley Business School offers an orientation intervention to the students at the beginning and end of the 12-month programme as well as workshops on Business for Creatives focusing on entrepreneurship.
MTF Academy continues to work with indigenous and international partners and facilitators to provide the practical experience needed to enhance their skills and contribute positively to the film and TV industry. The program also boasts a high calibre of award-winning specialists from across the continent, many of whom produce content for M-Net group channels.
Across the regional academies, MTF has shown continuous success since its inception, honing the skills of over 120 emerging filmmakers in 13 countries, who are now part of the growing MTF alumni network, taking African stories to the world. Academy continues to produce industry-ready graduates, with 60% of the Alumni class of 2022 already economically active in the TV industry.
