When a fire broke out at the Tower of refuge motherless/Orphanage babies home, burning down the orphan homes and everything was destroyed from pots and pans to food and clothes,other valuables. Even the new beds and mattresses that had recently been donated were burned to a cinder. Fortunately all of the children escaped and no one was hurt.
Tower of refuge motherless/Orphanage babies home which was located at No 7, Wole Madariola Street off Enitan Kusimo Street Aguda, Surulere,in Lagos State.
The fire incident which occurred at about 2:43pm on sunday,16th,2023, luckily the fire was quenched after four hours by first Responders that includes; LASEMA Response Team, LRU FIRE, LASG FIRE, and many children were rescued.
According to the Parmanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu in a statement issued, it was stated that “Upon arrival at the aforementioned address, one-storey building housing an orphanage/ motherless babies home was found to have caught fire.
“Further investigation revealed that the fire started from an air conditioning unit in the house as a result of power surge and later quickly spread out.
PS LASEMA further said that no life was lost and no injuries sustained to anyone.
A total of 7 boys with (the eldest being 7 years old and the smallest being 1 year old) were quickly evacuated from the home and are safely seated in the compound of the house opposite the home.
The management of the home has informed us of plans to move them to the house of the owner to ensure their welfare is sustained.
Efforts are currently ongoing to bring the fire under control.
Responders include LASEMA Response Team, LRU FIRE, LASG FIRE and Nigeria Police.
