Following the passing of the former Olubadan, the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabiakulehin, is set to be crowned as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland with the approval of the state governor, Seyi Makinde.
Oba Olakulehin will succeed the late Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who passed away during his second year as the 42nd king of Ibadan Land.
Governor Makinde confirmed Oba Balogun’s passing in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, stating that the monarch died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Born on October 18, 1942, the late monarch reigned for two years before his demise.
The incoming Olubadan, Olakulehin, who comes from the Balogun and hails from Ita Baale in Ibadan North East Local Government, previously served as a member of the House of Representatives during the Third Republic.
Traditionally, palace drummers are expected to journey from Alli-Iwo to the Ita Baale Palace of Oba Olakulehin to mark his symbolic ascent to the throne.
