Organized Labour Threatens Indefinite Shutdown Over Delayed Minimum Wage Bill | The Legend News

Organized Labour have threatened to organized indefinite strike as President Tinubu delayed Consideration of New Minimum Wage Bill.

Despite concerns over the delayed announcement of the new minimum wage, the Organized Labour has demonstrated its commitment to constructive dialogue by refraining from declaring a nationwide strike.

President Tinubu’s thoughtful consideration of the Tripartite Committee’s report is seen as a positive sign, and Labour leaders are urging Nigerians to remain patient and optimistic.

According to Comrade Benson Upah, Head of Information for the NLC, “We understand that the report was submitted during a busy period, with Democracy Day and Sallah celebrations coinciding. We’re not concerned about the timing, but rather the content of the executive bill that will be sent to the National Assembly.”

When asked about the potential reaction to a lower minimum wage proposal, Upah emphasized that the government’s decision will dictate Labour’s next move. “Let’s wait and see what the government proposes. We’re aware of the divisions within the government team, and we’re hopeful that a reasonable and fair decision will be made.”

The Organized Labour remains committed to achieving a fair living wage for Nigerian workers, and their restraint in this matter demonstrates their dedication to finding a peaceful and constructive solution.”
