UPDATE!! 3 Fatalities, 7 Casualties, After A Mosque Collapses At Yusuf Street In Papa Ajao, Lagos | The Legend News 

On Sunday May 26, 2024, at approximately 1:40 pm, a storey building mosque collapsed at Yusuf Street, Papa Ajao, in Lagos State.

According to the statement signed by Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu,
PS LASEMA.

Preliminary investigations revealed that an excavator clearing the road had recklessly hit a mosque, causing the building to collapse just as prayer was about to commence.

According to the statement, Four victims were immediately rushed to the hospital, while ten people were trapped beneath the rubble.

Under the supervision of the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu search and rescue efforts were conducted using heavy-duty equipment, including a crane, Hiab, and an excavator. Unfortunately, one adult was retrieved dead, while others received pre-hospital care on the scene. One person with serious injuries was transferred to the hospital.

Responders at the scene included the Agency’s response team, led by the PS, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire Service, LASPA, LASBCA, NEMA, Nigeria Police, LNSC, FRSC, and LASAMBUS. The operation is ongoing, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.

Final report on the Building Collapse at Yusuf Street, Papa Ajao

Following an extensive exercise, final casualty report on the above incident is that 3 fatalities and 7 casualties varying in severity.
The affected buildings have been leveled to ground zero.

Responders at the scene of the incident includes the Agency’s response team led by the PS, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire Service,LASBCA, NEMA, Nigeria Police, LNSC, FRSC and LASAMBUS.
