Ogun women group calls for eradication of sexual violence  | The  Legend News

The National Council for Women Society of Nigeria (NCWS), Ogun State chapter, has called for concerted effort to eradicate sexual violence against women and girls in the country.

The President of the Association, Alhaja Abisola Nurat Aliyu made this known at road walk to commemorate year 2022, 16 days of Activism with the theme “United Activism To End Violence Against Women and Girls, held at Lafenwa, Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

She said that the significance of the day was to create public awareness about men violating women’s and girl’s right in all form of violence, calling on government and other relevant stakeholders to put an end to domestic and violence against women and girls.

Alhaja Aliyu said the initiative was in line with the 16 Days of Activism Campaign, calling for united global action to end all forms of violence against women and girls, appealing to government at all levels to continue to bridge funding gaps to address violence against women and girls and also improve their life-saving service.

In their separate contributions, the President NCWS, Ijebu North East Local Government, Mrs Temitope Onayingbo  and her Counterpart, Second Vice President, Yewa North, Elder, Mrs Adejoke Adeshina, highlighted some of the causes of sexual violence and rape to include societal norms that supported male superiority, sexual entitlement and indecent dressing, urging parents to educate their girl child on proper dressing.

Speaking, Alhaja Modinat Adebakin and Mr. Victor Aborisade from Igbore Community both commended the group for the sensitization and awareness, promising to take the campaign to their various communities.
