the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, has commended the efficient security role the Nigeria Defence Corps have been carrying out by their region to enable their region’s businesses to prosper without any hitch. He said this yesterday while receiving the new State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Basil Igwebueze and his team at the Authority’s head office in Onne, Rivers State.

Commandant Basil, stated that, as the newly appointed Commandant in Rivers State, the purpose of his visit, was to acquaint and familiarize himself with OGFZA and its environment in the Oil and Gas Free Zone.

Speaking at a brief meeting, Managing Director/CEO of OGFZA, Senator Kaura, gave an overview of OGFZA, stating that, the sole aim of the Authority is to regulate all oil and gas free zones in the country. He informed them that the Onne/Ikpokiri Oil and Gas Free Zone in Rivers state which was established by late Head of State, Sani Abacha in 1996, is the pioneer Oil and Gas Free Zone all over the world.

He added that, for purposes of clarity and understanding, it is pertinent to note that Nigeria was the first to establish a free zone specifically dedicated to oil and gas activities. He also disclosed that the Free Zone is “a country within a country” which provides a one-stop shop service with various attractive incentives for investors.

Senator Kaura appreciated the Defence Corps for their commendable efforts that they have been playing particularly the prominent role played during the security crisis in the oil region.

Assuring them of OGFZA’s maximum support, Senator Kaura urged the Commandant and his team to execute their duties diligently, wishing them God’s protection in Rivers State and where ever their services would be needed.
