Four days ago, it was reported that a terrible accident, involving a moving train and a long bus, happened at the PWD Area, in ikeja, Lagos State, as these claimed the lives of six people and also injured so many people.
After the accident, victims in the bus, who witnessed what happened said that the bus driver’s stubbornness was what caused the accident, as they cautioned him to allow the train pass before he crosses the rail tracks but, he declined.
However, according to Punch Newspaper online this morning,it was reported that the flagman on duty that day, who refused to give his name for security reasons, has claimed that he flagged the BRT driver to stop more than five times but, he refused to do so.
The flagman said, “Nobody will blame me for not doing my job, I flagged him 5 times, he did not hear me. I kept waving the red flag, whistling and shouting, asking the BRT driver not to make the move to cross as a train was oncoming at high speed but he refused to hear me. Now, you see what has happened.”
Further talking, he said if they call him anywhere to defend himself, he will and he do make sure he arrives at his place of work very early in the morning for his shift but, some of these drivers do not listen to him.
He said, “One day, one of the drivers even spat at me because I flagged him down to save his life and you won’t believe that particular driver, still drove past the crossing despite the warning. I am just angry the BRT driver had passengers. If it was just him, I wouldn’t be this pained,” OperaNews
