The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi has charged members of the public, Lagos residents and Nigerians in general to stop giving bribe to police officers.
Alabi stated this during the annual conference of the National Association of Online News Security Publishers tagged: “Crime Prevention and Intelligence Gathering: Institutionalizing Citizen Participation, Technology and Way Forward,” which held on Wednesday September 21, 2022.
According to Alabi, “if the citizens obey the law, they have no reason to bribe police officers. It’s because many of them have skeletons in their cupboards that they prefer to bribe their way out. So they should stop giving bribe to police officers.”
Alabi said further that all the officers seen on the road (s) have seniors or supervisors, and that they could be reported, adding that the door of his office and phone number are always open for complaints.
The senior police officer stated that he always say in every fora, where he had engaged the media, that the same law that forbids the receiver of bribe also forbids the giver of bribe.
He therefore encouraged the citizens to obey the law and do what’s right always.
CP Alabi was among security stakeholders who spoke at the Conference that took place at the Civic Center, Victoria Island, Lagos.
