In a landmark development, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management to establish a degree-awarding academy for public relations practice in Nigeria. This milestone is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to excellence in public relations.
This was contained in a statement signed on June 29, 2024, by Mohammed Idris, fnipr, Minister of Information and National Orientation.
According to the statement,the election of Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan as the Secretary-General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA) is a well-deserved recognition of Nigeria’s leadership in the field. The recent designation of Public Relations as a cadre in the Federal Civil Service is another significant achievement, solidifying the profession’s importance in the country.
The NIPR has played a vital role in championing these advancements, and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. International recognition has come from the President of the African Public Relations Association, Mr. Arik Karani, who praised Nigeria for setting the standard in professionalizing public relations on the continent.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue to provide a supportive environment for the communications industry to flourish. This is indeed a promising era for public relations in Nigeria and Africa.
