Recall that the instruction earlier released by the Central Bank of Nigeria that the old Naira Notes would stop being a legal tender on the 31st of January 2023 was later extended till the 10th of February due to the ugly experience witnessed by many Nigerians in a bid to get the new notes.
However, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has blamed Nigerian banks for the scarcity of the new Naira notes.
It was also gathered, according to Nation News reports, that Godwin Emefiele disclosed this yesterday when he appeared before the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on the New Naira Redesign, where he said some of the banks have not complied with a directive to only load the new notes on automatic teller machines (ATMs).
According to one of his statements, Godwin Emefiele also said that “the new Naira Notes meant for the masses are given to noble men by banks to spray in clubs and hotels.”
