In a significant development for the telecommunications sector, Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Communications (IIC), a prominent advocacy organization in the field.
Dr. Maida, who currently leads the NCC as its EVC, has been instrumental in transforming Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape. His visionary leadership propelled the NCC to enhance connectivity stimulate innovation, and cultivate a competitive inclusive telecommunications environment.
With a background in the industry, Dr Maida has made notable contributions to esteemed global companies, including British Telecom, Cisco Systems, and EE Ltd. he was also a key member of the engineering team at UbiquiSys Ltd, a trailblazing-cell technology startup that Cisco Systems acquired in 2013.
Before taking current role at the NCC, Maida served as the Executive of Technology and Operations at the Inter-Bank Settlement Systems Plc (NIBSS). In this, he led the modernization of Nigeria’s central digital payments infrastructure, solidifying its importance as a component of the nation’s financial ecosystem.
Dr. Maida academic credentials are equally impressive; holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, and MEng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from the Cambridge Judge Business School.
