Former Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State, Dr Kayode Opeifa had a bitter tale to tell on Wednesday, 15 February, 2023, when workers of Chicken Republic, a food outlet, declined collecting old Naira notes from for his purchases.

According to Dr Opeifa, he had bought snacks and drinks worth N2,700 and gave the attendant at the Odo Eran, Oba Ogunji Road by Ogunnusi junction branch of the food outlet, the old Naira notes.

“She rejected the notes, insisting on either I gave her the new notes or I use my credit card,” a surprised Dr Opeifa narrated to thegazellenews.com

Of course he had to pay with his credit card and left.

It was also noticed that the management of the food outlet had pasted a notice on their entrance door saying they would not collect old Naira notes as from Thursday, 9 February, 2023 in line with Central Bank directives.
