Recently, Abiodun Dada, a shoemaker from Nigeria, and his wife, Rumoke, were interviewed by Punch News. Even though Abiodun’s cousin threw acid on him years ago in an attempt to kill him, the two were still able to fall in love and start a family.
Rumoke, his scarred wife, said in an interview that after she married Abiodun, her father disowned her and people laughed at her choice.
She says that when she first met her future husband at work, she was scared of him. After seeing his number on the storefront, she called him and asked him to make her a pair of shoes just for her. But he started getting in touch with her more often. At first, she didn’t answer his calls, but over time, they became friends and eventually fell in love.
Rumoke made it clear that her father didn’t like them being together, but that her mother was more accepting. After she said she wanted to marry Abiodun, her father kicked her out of the family and people in the community started making fun of her.
She said, “When I told my father that I was going to marry him, he kicked me out of the family right away.” He said I had hurt the reputation of his whole family.
As I walk down the street, people often make fun of me and say bad things about me. I don’t listen to them and don’t care what they say. As husband and wife, we love each other very much. Our children bring us a lot of happiness.
