Muslim youth and the youths in general have been advised to make positive use of social media for their academic, religion and social developments and benefits.
They were also charged to desist from using the social media for any acts that will not add values to them, their religion and the country at large.
The above advices were given by guest speakers at the 2nd Annual Ramadan lecture/Prayers of Jibril Martin Grammar School Old Students Association, held last Wednesday, at the school compound, Iponri, Lagos.
The first guest speaker, Imam Sulaiman Bada Adewunmi, who spoke on the theme: “The benefits of social media for human development: Islamic perspective”, called on the Muslim especially, the youths, to make use of the social media for peace, educational development, as well using it to propargate and expanding Islamic religion.
The speaker who graduated from the school in 1996, described those that are against the social media as ‘unexposed’, narrated how the social media assisted him while writing his project in higher institution. Saying that social media have help in intellectual development.
Imam Sulaiman while saying that as the social media have enormous advantages, also said they have disadvantages, but he stated that the disadvantages can be curbed, if the parents monitor how their children and wards use them.
He therefore called on parents to pay adequate attention on the children and wards and ensure that they did not use social media for bad things and crimes.
Also, the second guest speaker, Dr. Olaniyan Shobowale Khadijat, who spoke of the theme: “Muslim Youth, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”, charged the muslim youth to make positive use of social media for the benefits in their old age.
Dr. Olaniyan commended the members of Jibril Martins Grammar School Old Students Association for the annual Ramadan lecture, said such lecture will go along way in shaping the life of Muslim youth.
During the event, special awards of appreciation were given to both speakers.
