Men of the Ojo Police division, have arraigned a lawyer, Adaobi Obiora, before Ojo Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos, for allegedly making false statements against one of the resident prosecutors of the court, woman Inspector Esther Adesulu
The lawyer, arraigned before the court presided over by Magistrate M. A. Alade, on a two count-charge of giving false information and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
The prosecutor, Dr. Uche S, while arraigning the defendant on Wednesday, told the court that she committed the offences on July 1, 2024, within the court’s premises.
The prosecutor told the court that in the mentioned date, while the court was in session, the defendant gave false statement that the Inspector Adesulu collected the sum of N200, 000, 00 from one Clara Onyeagba, the statement he said was untrue.
The prosecutor also told the court that the act of the defendant, was capable of causing breach of peace.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections Section 96(B) and 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015,and punishable under the same laws.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Based on her not guilty plea, she was admitted to bail in the sum of N100, 000, 00, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Magistrate Alada, also ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must provide evidence of three years tax payable to the Lagos State government.
The magistrate, while adjourned the matter to August 14, however released her to a member of Badagry branch of NBA.
Charges Against The Defendant Reads: “That you Barrister Adaobi Obiora F, on the 1st day of July, 2024 at about 14:00hrs at Ojo Magistrate Court 2, Ojo, Lagos, in the Ojo Magisterial District, whilst the court was in session gave false statement against one Inspector Esther Adesulu ‘F’ a Resident Prosecutor, to have collected the sum of N200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) from one Clara Onyeagba, an information which you knew or believe to be false to the presiding Magistrate Court 2, Ojo with the intention of causing injury to the Prosecutor and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 96(B) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
“That you Barrister Adaobi Obiora F, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by making false allegation in an open court against the Resident Prosecutor of Ojo Magistrate Court and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168(D) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
