The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH), known for delivering progressive quality health services to the people of Lagos and by extension, to Nigerians, has again taken steps forward as it commissioned newly acquired intensive care and operating theaters equipment, on Friday, 15th of September, 2023.
The Director Clinical Services & Training, Prof. Adebowale Adekoya, in his opening address, appreciated the Lagos State Government for continually equipping the hospital. He said, “We all know that the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, places a lot of premium on accessible and affordable health care in Lagos State owned public hospitals at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. As a matter of fact, health care is one of the pillars of the THEMES agenda of Mr. Governor, and that is the reason we are here today for this commissioning”
While giving his address during the event, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, also saluted the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, for his continuous support in ensuring that healthcare service delivery is top notch, emphasized the significant impact of the new intensive care and operating theaters equipment.
Prof. Fabamwo explained that, “there is an increasing load of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) requiring patients in Lagos and environs, the demand for ICU beds keeps increasing. There’s hardly a day in LASUTH, without a case or two referred for ICU care. This concern is what has made the management of LASUTH, thought it pertinent to expand the operating capabilities of the hospital, knowing fully well that newly commissioned theatre suite complex will attract a rising number of surgical cases.”
Prof. Fabamwo revealed that LASUTH has expanded its ICU capacity with the procurement of 5 Brand New Ventilators and 4 Brand New Cardiac Monitors. In addition, 4 Theatre Spaces equipped with 4 Brand New Anesthetic Machines, to service the increased number of theatre suites.
He said that the new intensive care and operating theaters equipment at LASUTH will have a profound impact on revolutionizing patients’ well-being by enhancing treatment precision, reducing recovery times, and ultimately improving overall healthcare outcomes.
Rounding off the event, the Head of Anaesthetic Department, Dr. Funmi Ikotun, during her vote of thanks, said, “today’s achievement would not have been possible but for our ever proficient and amiable Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, who is so passionate about the advancement of every sphere of this hospital. Thank you for paying attention to every detail that leads to the development of the hospital.”
Dr. Ikotun, said the new equipment represent a crucial step in the hospital’s ability to provide world-class healthcare to the people it serves and it signifies the dedication of the health professionals to saving lives. She, on behalf of the department pledged to utilize the equipment to their fullest potential.
