The Special Female Squad (SFS), of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, was at this year’s children’s day celebration, organized by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Sector Command, today, Friday, 27th May, 2022, at the parade ground of the Command.

The Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Edenabu Douglas Okoro, msc, acma, cna, was also ably represented by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Corps I (ASCI) Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide, who also delivered, a speech on behalf of the Commandant.

The administrative officer of the Lagos State Command’s SFS, ASCI Patience Asieri, who represented the Commander of the squad, Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Agada Ada Bridget, also delivered a speech on the topic : “child abuse, safety and security (kidnaping),” at the event.

ASCI Patience Asieri, defined, child abuse; “as any action, gesture and behaviour by another person, be it an adult or a child that causes harm and damage to a child. It can be physical, emotional, verbal or sexual, she said.”

In her emphatic speech at the event, she also said, “the Lagos Special Female Squad (SFS), says no to child abuse and other sexual related vices common in our schools today.” However, while giving her speech, she also enumerated other ways to curb the supposed dangerous consequences of child abuse in our society.

The event, which also featured a keynote and a welcome address by the Zonal Commanding Officer, Lagos Zone of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Marshal Peter Kibo and the Sector Commander, Lagos State Sector Command, Corps Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, respectively. The event was also graced by a host of invited guests, from other sister agencies, which include the NSCDC and Federal Fire Service (FFS), Special Marshals, the Federal Road Safety Wives Association as well as children who represented their various schools (public and private).

In commemoration of the day, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, while delivering his welcome address, introduced the one day Sector Commander and Ambassador, Corp Commander, Vanessa Jones, who performed so many ceremonial responsibilities at the event such as; review of parades represented by the children of various schools, musical and dance renditions, amongst others to cheer the children and the guests up, at the memorable, entertaining and colourful event.

Finally, Commandant Eweka Edenabu Okoro, once again, at the event said through the Command’s PRO that he “avows his unflinching commitment towards the school safety initiative, which was propounded by the Commandant General (CG) Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, with the spirited and intrinsic vision to ensure safety and security in our schools as well as eradicate the disheartening menace of bullying, rape, sexual assault and cultism, witnessed, amongst school children today.
