Nigerian Army soldiers of the 81 Division NA prevented a suicide attempt by a woman named Francesca Spark. She had jumped into the Lagos Lagoon near the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Marina Lagos.
The troops of the 65 Battalion NA who were present there used their riverine skills to rescue her. After receiving first aid and being stabilized by the battalion medical team, she was handed over to her husband.
The GOC 81 Division NA, Maj Gen Muhammed Takuti Usman, commended the soldiers for their competence and bravery in a situation that could have cost a life.
He also mentioned that the army is dedicated to protecting citizens and their properties even during emergencies. The soldiers’ ability to bring their training in disaster management to the fore proved to be vital in preventing a catastrophe.
