On Sunday May 26, 2024, at approximately 11:38 pm, a road accident occurred at Mandilas bus stop, Iyana Isolo, in Lagos state, involving a Mercury Benz SUV and a truck conveying a 40ft container. Preliminary investigations revealed that the SUV collided with the truck due to excessive speeding, resulting in a fire outbreak from the car engine.
This was contained in a statement signed by Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke Osanyintolu, PS LASEMA.
According to the report, unfortunately, three adult males inside the car suffered severe burns and lost their lives due to the impact of the collision. Responders at the scene included the Agency’s response team, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire Service, SEHMU LASTMA, Nigeria Police, and LASAMBUS.
The accidented containerized truck and car were recovered with the aid of heavy-duty equipment, while the flatbody and carcass of the burnt car were towed to the LASTMA yard. The remains of the three burnt victims were extricated and handed over to SEHMU for onward transfer to the morgue.
