As the news of the death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi went viral on social media platforms, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that all members of the singer’s domestic staff are currently in police custody.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman of the police command in Lagos, said eight domestic staff of the music star have also been invited for questioning regarding the death of the child.
Local reports say the child drowned in the swimming pool – police say one of the domestic staff called in the police.
“They were invited for questioning and anyone found culpable will be placed under arrest,” Hundeyin told the BBC.
Ifeanyi who only turned three on 20 October, was reported dead on Monday at their home in Nigeria’s commercial city.
The DMW boss and his fiance, Chioma Rowland were away from the house when the boy drowned in a pool at his father’s house in Banana Island on Monday.
On the unfortunate incident, the Lagos PPRO said preliminary investigation is currently ongoing to unravel what led to the boy’s death.
He said, “Domestic staff at Davido’s home have been taken to the station to give their own account of what happened. I wouldn’t call that arrest yet.
“If after they all give their own account of what happened and after preliminary investigations, if anyone of them is found culpable, the person will now be placed under arrest”.
The police spokesman stated that “We got the report at about 10pm on Monday night. His body has been deposited in the morgue.
“We are in touch with his parents. In fact they were with us last night.”
Ben Hundeyin further assured that anyone not found culpable will be allowed to leave.
He said: “What we know so far is that he drowned. I don’t have any information beyond that. We are reviewing the CCTV Cameras to get additional information about the circumstances of his death.
David Adeleke, famously called Davido had announced plans to marry Chioma Rowland in 2023. They made the announcement in one of their trips to London in October.
Prior to Monday’s incident, the singer had four children from four partners.
In 2018, another Nigerian singer, Dbanj lost his son in similar fashion.
