A truck laden with 45000litres of diesel suddenly lost control, fell by its side and spilled its content on the road and nearby gutters this morning at Otto Wharf,Appa Lagos.
As at press time, the tanker was on high speed while driving inward Mile 2 and suddenly developed a mechanical fault, lost control and fell on a parked tow truck by the road side.
Unfortunately,one person died at the scene of the incident.
This was contained in a statement issued by PS LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that “Upon arrival at the scene by the Agency responders,a fallen tanker with unknown registration number, laden with 45000litres of diesel was encountered.
“Further investigation gathered revealed that the tanker was driving at top speed inward Mile 2, then suddenly developed a mechanical fault, lost control and fell on a parked tow truck by the road side.
“Unfortunately, a male adult lost his life while two adults male sustained injuries. One of the injured victims (the tanker driver) was taken hospital while the other victim was extricated by the LRT and has been attended to by the Agency’s paramedics.
“A combined team of first responders including LRU FIRE, LRU AMBULANCE, FRSC, LASAMBUS, LAGS FIRE and NA have concluded the operation.
“Both vehicles have been removed from the thoroughfare, the body of the adult male has been bagged and handed over to relatives. The road surface has been treated with fire retardant to prevent a secondary incident.
Motorists plying the area are to exercise caution,he added.
