Ind. Court Staff Begins Indefinite Strike On Nov. 2 Over Non-Payment Of Peculiar Allowance | The Legend News

The staff of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) have been directed to proceed on an indefinite strike beginning November 2, 2023.

This strike action was announced in a notice issued by the NICN chapter Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Mr. Gad Jerry.

The industrial action, according to the notice, comes as a result of the non-implementation of the 40 percent peculiar allowance approved for judicial workers by the Federal Government.

The NICN staff are complying with directives from the JUSUN national leadership to down tools until the allowance is paid.

In the notice to all divisional Registrars, Departmental Heads and general staff, the NICN JUSUN chairman stated the indefinite strike will commence on November 2 as instructed by the union’s national body.

He called for wide circulation of the strike notice to ensure complete compliance by staff.

The industrial action means NICN courts across the country will be unable to sit to hear cases until the demands are met. This will significantly disrupt proceedings and delivery of judgments. The union aims to pressurize the government towards implementing their approved allowances.

Staff are directed to join the nationwide indefinite strike barring any change in the government’s stance before November 2. The NICN courts are the latest to be hit by JUSUN strikes impacting the judicial system.
