Afro-pop music icon, Chris Mba, who was among the earliest pop music stars who transformed Nigerian pop music now tag afrobeats music by the western world has passed on.

Mba who gained instant stardom with his evergreen hit song, ” baby don’t cry”, from his successful debut album, “love everlasting”, in the 1980s, gave up the ghost after suffering a heart illness at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, on Wednesday.

The music label of the departed pop artiste and management, premier music, Lagos, confirmed his death.
likewise his class of 80s musicians amos mcroy and awards winning pop music producer, Roy Obika confirmed his death with tears. the General Manager,  Michael Odiong confirmed the news of his death on   wednesday at the lagos university teaching hospital (LUTH), with grief.

Chris Mba like most of his 80s colleagues was on low level fending for his household outside the music industry, when the Alaba marketing lords hijacked the music industry. however, his untimely death came after he battled with a heart-related disease for many years without assistance from anyone.

Chris Mba’s health challenge was made public by veteran entertainment journalist, Jebose Molokwu in 2019.
jebose, aka jebose Azuka, publicized the news and noted that Mba was very sick with heart disease and he also appealed for urgently financial assistance for him
from Nigerians.

Jebose revealed the artiste’s save our soul, SOS message sent to him as message on whatsapp appealing for financial assistance from Nigerians for help to pay treatment of expensive medical bills at LUTH.

“Jebose this is a serious health challenge for me and my family. please, my brother, help me. we buy drugs every day and a hospital bed costs 50k,” he said in his distressed whatsapp messages to Jebose.

Mba will be remembered for his simple, humble and caring character. He was massively loved by many for his jerry curl creative ftand stylish packaging. His hit songs such as ” Money”, “funky situation, “baby don’t cry,” “making my way and “love everlasting,” among others will remain evergreen in the music industry.
