It has been recently reported that a 35-year-old herbal medicine practitioner, Samuel Shittu was arrested by the police along with others over allegations of cultism in 2013. He stated that he was severely tortured and left to rot in the police cell for months till he was arraigned before the state High Court where he was granted bail at the cost of N500,000 and two sureties. Unable to meet them, he revealed has been unjustly imprisoned for 10 years, his wife died 5-month pregnant and he has only seen his 12-year-old son just once.
According to Samuel, his wife died in a road accident while running around to find a way to bail him out of detention after they asked her to bring N150,000. She was 5-months pregnant when she died. He further revealed that his little boy is now 12-year-old and he has seen him only once as he is living with relatives since his arrest 10 years ago.
He said, “My wife who was 5-months pregnant died in a road accident. She was looking for N150,000 to get me out of detention in 2013 when they arrested me falsely for cultism. These officers knew how my wife died, but showed no empathy.
“I have only seen my son once since I was arrested. He is 12-years now, living with my relatives.
“I have been unjustly imprisoned for 10 years because I can’t meet bail conditions of N500,000 and two sureties”.
