FREEDOM AT LAST: Court of Appeal frees Nnamdi Kanu ~The Legend News 

 

There was a wild jubilation in South East following an appeal court order for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu.

the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Thursday discharged and acquitted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism charges.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB has described the discharge and acquittal of it’s leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism charge, an indication that some Judges in Nigeria are discipline and knows the law.

IPoB in a statement by its image maker, Emma Powerful, while commending the courage of the Appeal Court Judges who handled the case expressed happiness for the outcome of the judgement and what it meant to international community.

IPoB’s statements read, “Yes, we are happy to hear that our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been discharged and acquitted of terrorism charges. The judgement shows that some judges are good and know the law and understand that Nnamdi Kanu did not commit the crimes and his extraordinary renditioned was very illegal.

“Biafrans both home and abroad including our friends, should rejoice because Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama has done it again and will continue to do more.

“We are warning those who are causing trouble in our land to desist or leave Biafra land. If you know you are criminal terrorising our people, just run because you are going to meet your Waterloo soon.”

Treason charges

Mr Kanu has repeatedly called for the breakaway of a significant chunk of southern Nigeria to form the Republic of Biafra.

On October 2015, he was arrested by Nigerian authorities on an 11-count charge bordering on “terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods, among others.”

He was granted bail on April 2017 for medical reasons.

However, Mr Kanu fled the country in September 2017 after an invasion of his home by the military in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State.

In June 2021, he was  rearrested in Kenya and sent back to Nigerian to face treasonable Felony.
