First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Youth To Embrace Wisdom from Elders, Calls For Collective Fight Against Corruption | The Legend News

 The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on young people to value and heed the guidance of parents and elders, emphasizing that their wisdom remains crucial for personal and societal development. She made the statement during a one-day workshop on corruption prevention, organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja.
 
This was contained in a statement signed on Thursday, 14th November, 2024, by   Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria .
 
According to the statement, Speaking on the theme, “Women and Youth Alliance Against Corruption,” Senator Tinubu highlighted the vital role of women in the fight against corruption, starting within their homes. She urged mothers to take proactive steps in nurturing and guiding their children, stressing that this foundational effort is crucial to curbing corruption in society.
 
“We must go beyond merely having our voices heard and step into roles where our actions create meaningful impact,” Tinubu stated. “As the saying goes, *‘It takes a village to raise a child.’* Similarly, defeating corruption requires the collective will of the entire nation. Women, as nurturers, must reclaim their roles in shaping the next generation, as this fight starts from the family.”
 
The First Lady pointed out that corruption has permeated every sector of Nigerian society, including markets, private enterprises, government institutions, the judiciary, and even religious organizations. She emphasized that tackling this menace requires the efforts of all Nigerians, not just government agencies.  
 
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the ICPC, reiterated the commission’s commitment to eradicating corruption. He emphasized the importance of involving women, youth, and other key stakeholders in achieving this goal.

Goodwill messages from various sectors further enriched the event. The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, underscored the critical role mothers play in ensuring that corruption does not take root in the upcoming generation. Additionally, the Kogi State Commissioner for Youth Development urged students to shift from protests to active participation in governance and reform efforts.
 
The workshop brought together youth representatives, women’s groups, security agencies, and officials from organizations like the Code of Conduct Bureau and JAMB. Participants discussed actionable steps to foster accountability and integrity across all sectors of Nigerian society.
 
The event concluded with a resounding call for collective action, with Senator Tinubu urging women to lead by example in the fight against corruption, ensuring a brighter future for Nigeria.
