In a move to address concerns over the new national minimum wage, Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, met with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
Accompanied by Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, Edun aimed to discuss the way forward on the minimum wage negotiations.
While the meeting’s agenda was not disclosed, it is believed to be connected to President Tinubu’s directive to present a revised figure to the organized labour at the Tripartite Committee meeting.
Despite Wednesday’s meeting ending without a resolution, Edun’s assurance suggests a positive development in the negotiations.
The federal government and Organized Private Sector had previously proposed N60,000, which was rejected by organized labour.
However, with Edun’s reassurance, expectations are high that a mutually acceptable figure will be presented at today’s 2 pm meeting, bringing hope to the negotiations.
