NCC’s Digital Innovation Park Torched by Protesters, in Kano File Photo
In a significant move towards restoring technological infrastructure in Nigeria, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, the Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has announced the Federal Government’s commitment to fully renovate the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Digital Innovation Park in Kano. This facility was damaged during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests that took place in August 2024.
According to Consumerconnect report, Minister Tijani expressed his satisfaction with the support received from IHS Towers, a telecommunications infrastructure provider, which has pledged to oversee the complete renovation of the vandalized park.
“I am pleased to announce that we have received the support of IHS Towers who have committed to the full renovation of the Nigerian Communications Commission Digital Innovation Park in Kano, which was unfortunately vandalized a few months ago,” Tijani stated.
The Minister visited Kano on the same day to assess the current condition of the Innovation Park firsthand. He emphasized the urgency of restoring the facility, which serves as a vital resource for aspiring tech professionals, including the 3MTT Nigeria fellows who rely on the space for their applied and hands-on learning experiences.
“The restoration of this facility is crucial for the benefit of our citizens, especially for our 3MTT Nigeria fellows and many young people across the country who represent the future of the global digital workforce,” Tijani remarked. “Their dreams and aspirations are valid, and we are committed to supporting them.”
During his visit, Tijani took the opportunity to engage with the local community, expressing his appreciation for their inspiring stories and the potential they hold for the future. He also extended his gratitude to the Kano State Government, led by Executive Governor H.E. Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for their warm welcome and ongoing support for the Ministry’s initiatives.
The renovation of the NCC Digital Innovation Park is expected to revitalize the local tech ecosystem and provide a conducive for innovation and learning, ultimately contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.
