Fatal Accident On Third Mainland Bridge Claims One Life, Injures Eight | The Legend News

A devastating accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Monday resulted in the loss of one life and left eight others severely injured. The collision occurred when two Mazda commercial buses crashed head-on near Ilaje, heading towards Iyana-Oworonsoki.

Eyewitnesses reported that the buses were engaged in a high-speed chase, which began at the Adeniji Adele axis. “The drivers were driving recklessly from Adeniji Adele in a high-speed chase,” they said.

LASTMA’s spokesman, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident and stated that officers promptly arrived at the scene, rescuing eight passengers with serious injuries, including multiple fractures. The injured were rushed to Gbagada General Hospital for immediate medical attention.

Taofiq praised the swift response of police officers from Bariga and Alonge Police Stations, who ensured a smooth rescue operation and maintained order.

LASTMA reiterated its commitment to promoting road safety, urging motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly. The agency extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

In a separate incident, a Honda CRV overturned near the Unilag waterfront on the Third Mainland Bridge due to excessive speeding. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. LASTMA officers quickly cleared the scene to prevent further traffic disruptions.

The agency emphasized the need for motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to avoid further tragedies on Lagos roads.
