Court Sentences Man To 3 Years For Trafficking In 13.9kg Of Hard Drug | The Legend News

Justice Daniel Osiagor of a Lagos Federal High Court, today, convicted and sentenced a drug trafficker, Akinrinnade Akinwande Adebiyi, to three years imprisonment from unlawful dealing in 13.9 kilograms of tramadol, a prohibited drug.

The court convicted and sentenced the man, after he pleaded guilty to a count charge of dealing in the prohibited drug.

Upon his guilty plea, the prosecutor, Paul Awogbuyi, urged the court to sentence him in accordance to section 11(c) of the NDLEA ACT CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and punishable under the same Act.

But the convict’s lawyer, Bolanle Kolawole, after citing series of legal authorites, pleaded with the court, to give her client a non-custodian sentence or an option of fine.

Bolanle had told the court that her client was a first time convict who didn’t waste the precious time of court, as he pleaded guilty to the charge at early possible time.

Justice Osiagor in his judgment, sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment.

The judge however, awarded the sum of N2 million, as a fine option against the defendant, and in addition to the fine option, the judge ordered the convict to perform a week community service.

Earlier, the prosecutor had told the court that the convict was arrested with the prohibited drug on July 20, 2023, at Silver Luxury Transport Company a Iddo Park, Lagos State.

He also told the court that the convict’s illegal act was contrary to and punishable under Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
