ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter Members’ Urged To Uphold Professionalism | The Legend News

American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air – Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Nigeria Chapter members have been enjoined to uphold professionalism, good conduct, efficiency and integrity in the conduct of their business operations.

Architect Roti Delano, Principal Partner Roti Delano Design Ltd made this statement during the closing ceremony of the annual ASHRAE Distinguished Lecture held yesterday at Radisson Blu hotel, Ikeja Lagos.

According to Delano “ there should be effective collaboration between architects and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning engineers( HVAC)”.

“ The collaboration between these professionals: architects, MEP and HVAC engineers would ensure our building’s safety, comfort and efficiency.

Engr Ade Oyenekan, ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter President added that “architects, MEP and HVAC engineers must explore innovative technologies and modern trends to enhance building performance, attain green environment and occupants comfort “.

Oyenekan observed that “ in multi story buildings, to maintain good indoor air quality is an aspect that our MEP and HVAC engineers need to critically look into, so as to meet code requirements”.

In his contribution, Dr Vincent Sakraida, ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer from South Carolina, USA posits that “ there is need for proper specifications by architects in building drawings, such as external glazing , as this will impact the air conditioning sizing and ventilation.”

In his words “ proper specifications would ensure that natural daylight, ventilation systems, renewable energy sources and high performance are deployed in building construction.”

According to Engineer Ade Oyenekan, President ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter “the annual Distinguished lecture focuses on
advance heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems design and construction”

“ASHRAE has over 50,000 members in more than 130 countries worldwide.
The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the engineering industry.”

In Oyenekan’s words “ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment.”

“Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today”, he stated.

Oyenekan further explained that “ ASHRAE Nigerian Chapter distinguished lecture topics are: origin in the built environment to prevent pandemic; clean room design ten steps; and clean room variable airflow design.”

Other speakers during ASHRAE 2-day annual lecture are: Engineer Babatunde Badru, Founding President ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter; Engr Adeniyi Ogunnusi, Managing Partner
Consem Associates Ltd;
Engineer Tosin Ogunmola representative of Nigeria Society of Engineers National President, Engr Margaret Aina Oguntala; and Engr Iyiola Olawoye, Vice President Nigeria Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

Professionals that graced the lecture included: Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) designers, HVAC contractors and HVAC manufacturers and HVAC sales representatives;
architects; data centers designers and contractors; hotel, hospitals, and health care facilities managers; oil and gas data Centre engineers and engineering students from higher institutions.
