Arsenal football club returned to the leadership of the English Premier League on Tuesday night, with their sound beating of their close rivals, Chelsea in an excellent premiership football display.
As expected Chelsea lost 3-1, to the in-form Gunners who came out to win this year’s premier league. Unbelievably, the Blues made it six conservative losses in a row under Frank Lampard, their interim coach.
Arsenal handed Chelsea a shocking first half, where they dominated and massively out played Chelsea right from the kick-off. The Blues who couldn’t march the ‘fireworks’ of the Gunners went 3-0 down in 34 minutes through goals from Arsenal captain Odegaard, who netted twice and the third by Gabriel Jesus.
However, at the beginning of the second half, Lampard made some players changes which improved Chelsea’s playing standard. With this improvement, the Blues managed to score a consolation goal in the 2nd half through Noni Madueke, through Kovacic assist. The goal was Madueke’s first goal for Chelsea. Kovacic got the assist with a brilliant pass.
Highly improved Chelsea took over the second half after scoring their only goal which is an improvement on their recent games, but still not good enough in their league position.. Arsenal could have scored more goals but, Kepa, Chelsea’s goalkeeper made so many wonderful saves to stop hard fighting Arsenal. Inaddition, Chelsea assistant Captian Thiago Silva, should be commended for clearing the ball of the line to denie Arsenal the fourth goal.
Notably,Chelsea have lost six consecutive games in all competitions for the first time since 1993, and have lost three consecutive games against Arsenal for the first time since 2004.
Meanwhile, football pundits, fans and icons have expressed their feelings about the match. “Really disappointing and painful for the Blues, again”.
“Arsenal are the first and only team in Europe’s top 5 leagues with FOUR players with over 10 goals in the league this season’, said Fabrizio Romano.
“Celebrated football analyst and former captain of Manchester United, Gary Neville slammed the Blues in his Twitter account. “Chelsea are a disgrace out there”, he wrote. ” Really disappointing and painful for the Blues, again. We know we’re sh*t but we just need to get to next season now and we face Bournamouth away on Saturday”, Chelsea football club fans wrote in their Facebook page.
In his remark, elated Arsenal captain, Odegaard , said :”overall, a solid performance which was more likely the pre April Arsenal and happy to get back to winning ways win another three points which takes us top of the league for now. Arteta made some changes which were questioned, however they were the right changes with Kwior having a solid display at the back. Jorginho controlling the middle of the park and Trosaard looking lively on the flank. Another London Derby victory which completes the double over Chelsea.
In a related development, Nigerian football legend and former Arsenal striker, Kanu Nwankwo and his wife, Amara were in Emirates stadium, England, to watch and cheer Arsenal to victory over Chelsea live. In the same vein, Nigerian former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, was also in the stadium to watch the match and cheer Arsenal, with his children, Niyi and Tosin. The Kanus and Sarakis shared photos of their attendance on their social media accounts.
