A devastating fire outbreak has ravaged the Oko Baba plank market in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State, destroying several shanties and causing widespread damage.
The blaze, which broke out on Sunday, sent panic waves through the market, prompting swift responses from emergency services.
Eyewitnesses took to social media to report the incident, with Adedeji Olalekan (@Stylomedia),an X ( formerly twitter) user, tweeting, “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning.”
Confirming the incident, Nosa Okunbor, spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said emergency responders are currently at the scene conducting search and rescue operations.
“LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service are working together to contain the situation and ensure public safety,” Okunbor stated.
The combined efforts of LASEMA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, and other emergency responders are ongoing to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage.
The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be determined, and officials are working to assess the extent of the damage.
This incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and swift response to mitigate the impact of such disasters.
