The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be keen on redemption, when they play the reverse leg of their African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau today on GOtv.
José Peseiro’s men were stunned in Abuja last Friday, when the Wild Dogs rode to victory, courtesy of a lone strike from Mamadu Balde, thereby giving the Bissau Guineans a one-point lead at the top of the group.
The Nigerians will be keen to return to the summit of the group by securing an away victory against the Wild Dogs at the Estadio 24 de Setembro this evening at 4:45pm on SuperSport Football (GOtv ch. 31).
Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, assured Nigerians that the team would respond positively to the defeat and do its best to regain the top spot. “First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result,” Iwobi said.
“All we can do is to improve, and to the fans, all I can say is that they should stick by us and support us because we give 100 percent, not just for ourselves, but also for our nation,” he added.
In his post match briefing, Guinea Bissau’s skipper, Braima Nogueira Jorge was full of praise for the Nigerians, but he expressed confidence that his team has what it takes to complete a double over the giants.
“Nigeria is blessed with talented players, who are well known all over the world playing for top clubs. We scored a goal and defended well to frustrate Nigeria. It is a good win and we want to return home to complete the job,” Jorge said.
